If you are looking for a slow, peaceful coastal getaway from Mumbai, Bordi Beach near Dahanu is truly a hidden gem.
We recently spent a relaxing short vacation here — and honestly, I wish we had planned for at least a week.
Bordi is almost the last village of Maharashtra. After this, Umbergaon in Gujarat begins. Because of this border proximity, many locals speak Gujarati along with Marathi and Hindi.
The town has a small, peaceful, almost old-world charm. Most houses are closely built and painted in yellow shades, giving it a uniform, warm appearance.
Stay Experience: Anand Beach Resort vs Treat Resort
We stayed at Anand Beach Resort, which is located just opposite Bordi Beach — literally a few steps from the shore.
Why We Liked Anand Beach Resort:
- Spacious rooms
- Swimming pool (we enjoyed for hours!)
- Badminton court
- Swings for kids
- Open space for relaxation
Budget-friendly pricing
We booked a room for 5 people at just ₹4,500, which was a great deal considering the facilities.
For couples or smaller groups, rooms were around ₹2,500.
Treat Resort – Marketing Hype or Worth It?
Located around 3.5 km from Bordi, Treat Resort is considered one of the premium stays in the area.
They quoted us ₹7,500 for a 5-person room. While the property is good and has strong marketing presence (it has even been featured on Curly Tales), we found Anand Beach Resort more value-for-money.
Facilities were quite similar, except Treat Resort offers more Instagram-style photo spots.
Lunch at Tamarind – A Picture-Perfect Dining Spot
For lunch the next day, we visited Tamarind, a beautiful resort-style restaurant.
Rooms here are priced around ₹3,500.
Why we recommend Tamarind:
- Freshly prepared food
- Clean ambiance
- Lots of picturesque photo opportunities
- Relaxed seating arrangement
- The food quality was genuinely fresh and satisfying.
- Food Options in Bordi
- Bordi is simple and not overly commercial.
- Inside the local market, there is mainly one proper restaurant — Kumar Restaurant.
Nearby you’ll find:
- Plenty of seafood options
- Fresh fish dishes
Local Maharashtrian thalis
One famous local attraction is Jalaram Pani Puri wala, quite popular among locals and visitors.
If you go 4 km towards Gholvad, which is the nearest railway station to Bordi, you’ll find Sangeeta Restaurant just opposite the station.
Unique Experience at Bordi Beach
- What makes Bordi Beach special is its natural beauty.
- The beach is very long and less crowded.
- The sand/soil is black in colour.
- In the evening, the sea water recedes almost half a kilometer!
We literally chased the receding water just to drench our feet — it was such a memorable experience.
There is also a camping site directly on the beach for adventure lovers.
Sunsets here are peaceful, dramatic, and perfect for slow travelers.
Bordi’s Coastal Charm
- Close-knit yellow houses
- Calm town-like atmosphere
- Gujarati cultural influence
- Fresh fish availability
- Less commercialization compared to other beaches near Mumbai
- It feels like time slows down here.
How to Reach Bordi Beach
Nearest railway station:
Gholvad (approx 4 km from Bordi)
By road:
3 to 4 hours drive from Mumbai
By air:
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport
Is Bordi Beach Worth Visiting?
If you are expecting water sports, loud music, and party vibes — this is NOT the place.
If you want:
- Peace
- Long beach walks
- Fresh seafood
- Affordable stays
- Family-friendly resorts
- Slow coastal life
Then Bordi Beach is absolutely worth it.
Personally, I truly wish I had stayed here for one full week instead of just a short trip.
Final Verdict
Between better marketing and better value, we chose value — and Anand Beach Resort turned out to be the right decision for us.
If you’re planning a weekend getaway from Mumbai that is peaceful, affordable, and authentic — Bordi should be on your list.
